More reports from Taiwan! 

This time we are in 知本 (Zhīběn) in the 臺東 (Taitung) area. Here we met a very important figure for the indigenous people - Mr 呂宏文 (Lǚ hóngwén), who also leads a community that is trying to restore not only natural and endemic cultivation, but also the management and cultivation methods known from the time before the agricultural revolution came here after the Second World War.

知本 is also an important place on Taiwan's renewable energy map - and the tribe's dispute with a company that wanted to install PV on the site of ancient tribal buildings and graves has been one of the most important elements of Taiwan's energy transition. The 知本 wetlands are a symbol and a great example of how differently we can understand ownership? What is private land, what is tribal land? What is Taiwan today? Who are the people of Taiwan?

We spent a whole day with 呂宏文 (Lǚ hóngwén) walking around 知本 and his stories of land struggles, tribal changes, energy and even gold-seeking Dutchmen landing on a nearby beach will be an important part of our further research!
